The Ol’ Sarge character grew out of a monthly cartoon created by Pete Tumlinson for the Battalion Humor Magazine when he was a student at A&M. Named Magarkin, Ol’ Sarge was a strong-jawed sergeant depicted in comedic situations that were meant to reflect the experiences of the Corps of Cadets.
